[RAMBLERS[ Meeting Minutes, 8/10/2011 SUM

Number of Attendees: 5

GENERAL INFORMATION:

· Ramblers Meetings are currently held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM in the Mesquite Room of the Student Union until the end of the summer, at which point we will probably move back into the Forbes building.

· Unless otherwise specified, all hikes depart from the low wall by the church on 4th Street and Tyndall Avenue.

PAST HIKES:

· Drew took a trip up through Colorado two weeks back to Handies Peak, near Silverton. Apparently this is one of those rare peaks with a 180 degree view of nothing but mountains. No towns or infrastructure in sight. On his way up he also passed through the Great Sand Dunes. There was surprisingly little snow pack there (compared with the rest of Colorado, that is). This was soon interrupted by an extended discussion about toads...my notes from this point in the meeting simply read "toad messiah," and seeing as this apparently referred to Drew, I reckon I'll include it here.
· Joe went to French Joe with the black-light. He reports dry, shallow sheet activity, but it was an enjoyable trip nonetheless. "Neat place".

FUTURE HIKES:
· Steve's Sabino Canyon hike is this weekend, from the visitor's center to about halfway up the Palisades. This is a more difficult hike and will probably take up most of the day, but if you are interested then be sure to check out Steve's listserv details and RSVP as soon as possible. Steve notes that this is one of his favorite canyons to do, so provided all goes as planned it should be a memorable trip.
· Anybody planning anything for Labor Day? Colton really wants to go fishing.
· Juliana hopes to set up a pancake brunch sometime in the near future. She's thinking that everyone would chip in a little bit, and maybe organize a hike afterward. The main ingredient missing here is a location at which to host the brunch, so if anyone has any suggestions or is willing to volunteer their pad, get in touch.
· Having failed at spontaneously roping in random people to lead hikes, Colton decided to plan a backpacking trip to the Superstitions on the weekend of October 9th. The exact details haven't quite been worked out here, but the basic information should be on the upcoming hike flier for the Fall semester. Apparently Joe does not approve of this hike, and considers it "suicide" due to the fact that there's elevation change.

CLUB BUSINESS:
· Applications to the University club fair need to be submitted by next Tuesday, so if you have any hikes you want to plan for this coming semester, get them up on the Fall 2011 hike flier! Colton suggests that somebody plans at least one car camping trip to help introduce new members to the club, etc. We also need volunteers to man the table at the club fair. Juliana will post time slots and fair information to the listserv.
· This week we also discussed fund-raising ideas, though I'm not sure much got accomplished. Colton's suggestion was putting together a pair of calendars, "Women of the Ramblers" and "Men of the Ramblers," but using photographs of random people from the internet instead of actual club members. Joe modestly volunteered to man a kissing booth.
· Happy birthday Will!
· Try as I might, I can't remember what the phrase "making it gooder" referred to. Another anomalous entry into my meeting minute notes.

Meeting adjourned.

Until next week,
Nik, Club Secretary
