[RAMBLERS] Meeting Minutes, 3/23/2011

Number of Attendees: 18

GENERAL INFORMATION:
· Ramblers Meetings are held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM in Forbes 307.

· Unless otherwise specified, all hikes depart from the low wall by the church on 4th Street and Tyndall Avenue.

PAST HIKES:
· Chris reports that his "sweet trip to the Grand Canyon" over Spring Break was a solid success. He was accompanied by three other Ramblers, and they averaged around nine to ten miles per day of backpacking. Lots of beautiful photographs of the area, including some old classic vista shots that have apparently been taken multiple times on multiple trips, but are still as inspirational as ever. Chris even brought back some videos, including a commentary on great bathing opportunities - get in cold, come out bloody?
· The second Spring Break trip was Steve's Blue Range backpacking excursion, which was also a success. This trip allowed for a little more relaxation than the other two trips, but nonetheless was filled to the brim with good hiking. Of particular interest is the discovery (I use that term loosely, for obvious reasons) of a canyon that may make for a good trip further on down the road.
· And last, but in no way least, was Roxana's backpack up into the Rincons. She had eight people up there as well, including a number of first-time backpackers, as well as new club members. Needless to say, Roxana was impressed. This was an intense one but from the sound of it, people had a real good time.

FUTURE HIKES:
· Nobody had any future hikes to announce; looks as though this weekend is for recovery, provided something spontaneous doesn't rear its head last minute.

CLUB BUSINESS:
· Important! Attention! Ahem! Cough! Nominations for next semester's club officers will be next week, with the actual voting taking place the week after that. So far it sounds like possible nominations are Juliana for President, Ben Lewis for Vice President, and Nik for Secretary. We're definitely looking for more nominees, however, as lots of the core members of the Ramblers won't be eligible this coming semester. Make sure you make it on over to the next few meetings and give some input. Ambitious new members are also encouraged to try for officer positions, etcetera.
· Lastly, Lenny presented "Rasputin," and closed the meeting on a rather unusual note.

Meeting adjourned around 6:00.

Until next week,
Nik, Club Secretary
