[RAMBLERS] Meeting Minutes, 11/9/2011

Number of Attendees: 22

GENERAL INFORMATION:

· Ramblers Meetings are currently held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM in Forbes, Room 307.

· Unless otherwise specified, all hikes depart from the wall by the church on 4th Street and Tyndall Avenue.

PAST HIKES:
· Chris somehow managed to rope three (!) other Ramblers into braving this year's Rincon Death March, playing hooky (or in Chris' own words, engaging in "complete non-participation in school and/or work") on Friday to make it up to Manning Camp. Definitely an adventure. They got to Manning late after-dark, around 9:00-10:00 pm, in heavy winds. Sleet started raining down on them overnight, which was a pretty unfortunate turn of events as Charity was asleep in her hammock and the wind blew everything right into her face...and then, at some point in the night, it snowed about two inches. The next day was spent eating food and sitting around a yule log. Second night culminated in an even more unfortunate disaster involving a hammock, a space blanket, and a big hot rock. Lesson learned: nylon and fire are a bad combination, especially on a cold and windy night. Lots of sharp snowy photography.
· Saturday was a nice day, so Steve went to Ash Creek in the Galiuros to check out all the fall colors. There was some snow from the previous night's storm, and all manner of bright and vivid colors.

FUTURE HIKES:
· Rox is going to be leading a trip up Pusch Peak this Saturday. It doesn't sound like it will be as much of a pure scramble as she had originally suggested, though what little trail there is sounds to be steep and somewhat unofficial. Six or seven mile round trip, with about five thousand feet of elevation. It may or may not rain.
· Drew's mystery hike is full! Tune in next week, when the secret location will finally be revealed.
· The Cliffhangers club is setting up a trip to Baboquivari. This one is un-Ramblers-related, but if you have any interest here get in touch with Ben Smith.
· Steve's backpacking trip to the Galiuros leaves (or left, probably) this afternoon, and will be back this coming Saturday. Loop trip, two nights, hope y'all enjoy!

CLUB BUSINESS:
· Rox has gotten confirmation on nest semester's geology talk, though she herself may not be here! Look forward to this one.

· Ben Lewis is probably going to be taking over the revision of the club constitution, and notes that he will gladly accept bribes in exchange for writing in random secret clauses, probably written in two point font or typed in using off-white ink. I don't know where this is going.
· Joe, if you're reading this everyone decided on Gentle Ben's for dinner...again. You don't even know what you're missing.
· And before I forget, a handful of new faces at this week's meeting led to an otherwise random reintroduction of attending members along with favorite movie (or in at least one case, movies and other movies and television shows and...)

Anyways, meeting adjourned at 5:32.

Until next week,
Nik Safi, Club Secretary
