Number of Attendees: 16
GENERAL INFORMATION:
· Ramblers Meetings are currently held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM in Forbes, Room 307.
· Unless otherwise specified, all hikes depart from the wall by the church on 4th Street and Tyndall Avenue.
PAST HIKES:
· Roxana's "epic backpacking trip" from the base of Sabino Canyon to the top of Mount Lemmon was a solid success, with seven Ramblers in attendance, including several first-timers. They caught a garter snake and brought in a video of it swimming through the pools, where they also happened to encounter a newly installed "Rope Swing of Death". There was a case of destination communication breakdown, but they did manage to return with all hands present! Cue convoluted car math.
· Steve showed pictures of a small-scale Mount Lemmon fall colors expedition he did on Saturday, featuring saw-tooth maples and lots of foliage. He even snapped a picture of the rare, elusive wild chocolate cat-pig (courtesy of Trader Joe's, notes Juliana). Needless to say, it was a good day.
FUTURE HIKES:
· Ben Smith has sent in the permit application for the Grand Canyon trip, and this meeting was the day to pay or get bumped to the wait list. When people did try to hand in their payment, however, mild chaos ensued, leading to a discussion of money-throwing strategies and Grant getting pegged by a $5.00 bill.
· The Rincon Death March has five people confirmed, with one free spot. Chris got a permit, and used the opportunity at the meeting to hand out basic information about the hike to those who had already signed up. This was a very off-topic meeting all around, so this was quickly followed by all sorts of side-conversations and who-knows-what-else before the meeting finally managed to segue into...
· Nathaniel announcing that he has to postpone or cancel his Vermilion cliffs trip, unless someone else out there wants to grab the reins, in which case he will be more than happy to provide all the information he's collected up this point and the trip can go on as planned. Stay tuned if you were interested in this one to see if it manages to catch a second wind.
CLUB BUSINESS:
· Rox has talked to a professor in the geology department about coming in and giving a talk about regional geology. This won't be happening this semester, but look forward to it somewhere around the second week of February, 2012. If you have any suggestions about bringing in guest speakers at the Ramblers meetings, get in touch with one of the officers.
· Under duress, I note that the group decided to go to Gentle Ben's since Joe wasn't present at the meeting this week.
Meeting adjourned at 5:33.
Until next week,
