[RAMBLERS] Meeting Minutes, 5/4/2011

Number of Attendees: 14

GENERAL INFORMATION:

· Ramblers Meetings are held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM in Forbes 307.

· Unless otherwise specified, all hikes depart from the low wall by the church on 4th Street and Tyndall Avenue.

PAST HIKES:
· Drew showed a number of photographs from last weekend's Elephant Head trip, including two of the Elephant fetish altar that folks have got built up there. According to Drew and Joe it sounded like a really enjoyable hike, albeit somewhat strenuous. Joe definitely did not fail to mention that Will had a slight trail spotting issue on the way, and at one point ended up a mile or so off course.
· Steve led some Ramblers up to Tanque Verde Falls. Photographs spotlighted Lenny's pool of blood (now dried up), and ducks "getting algae all over their faces".
· Ben Smith kayaked down the Gila on Saturday and reports that the river was "very floatable" (my internet spell checker confirms that no, that is not a real word). Debates quickly ensued as to whether the Gila runs on effluent or good old fashioned water, and then as to whether or not there's really a difference when you're talking about a river next to Phoenix - or something like that. Oh, and Ben says the trip was relaxing, and that he's considering making the trip again in the future in case anybody's interested.

FUTURE HIKES:
· Even though it isn't really a Ramblers hike, Joe brought up a Sky Island Alliance trip out to the Chiricahuas this weekend.
· Ben Smith wants to let everyone know that he's now free for a big chunk of this coming summer, and is definitely interesting in doing some exploring, hiking, whatever.

CLUB BUSINESS:
· Keep in mind that there is only one more official Ramblers meeting. Following that, Summer session meetings will be taking place in the downstairs lobby of Forbes.
· Popular pressure compels me to add that a considerable amount of time was spent discussing how to "not die". Apparently reading a book makes you more susceptible to fires, while reading a book in the street is more or less an all around bad idea. I must confess I did not take much in the way of notes here so my apologies if your winning "how not to die" tip didn't make it onto these minutes.
· I would also like to confirm that a number of weeks ago Ben Smith was elected as Club Treasurer. How's that for ya?

Meeting adjourned at...sometime in between 5:30 and 5:45, I believe.

Until next week,
Nik, Club Secretary
